When I was in Joseph Oregon last summer I stumbled on a beautifully photographed horse book brainchild of the Joseph FFA advisor David Yost who saw this as an opportunity to raise money for National FFA . It's titled Living Western Horsemanship. I'm Susan Allen stay tuned and after the break Jeff Keane and I will share some of the pearls of wisdom found among it's pages. Living Western Horsemanship is a insightful collection of narratives from icons in the horse Industry. Craig Cameron, a cowboy from Texas who calls horsemanship an "art form" and a "thinking mans game" had quite the interesting commentary . Susan, what do you suppose influenced this man they call the "public defender" of the horse. Craig states that even as a kid in his early years of cowboying in Texas he could sense that the rough way of handling horses was wrong. He credits Ray Hunt for introducing him to a new method and says that he now can see "all great horsemen work through the power of understanding." Craig's says his goal is to develop the "brave Horse." To achieve this you must learn to use what he dubs are your five senses; Sensibility, Sensitivity, Common sense, Horse Sense and &Sense of Humor. Great advice but the tip of the iceberg when it comes to all of the nuggets of wisdom contained in the pages of Living Western Horsemanship available on Amazon .com for about twenty bucks. Remember, a portion of the proceeds go to the National FFA Organization. I'm Jeff Keane.
