04/07/08 Cattle barons weekend

Ellensburg has it's labor Day Rodeo and the Spirit of the West Cowboy Gathering. Not to be left in the dust, Pendleton, home to the Pendleton Roundup is staging it's first annual Cattle Barons Weekend. I'm Jeff Keane stay tuned after the break and I will tell you all about it. There is more to ranching than hard work, ranchers share a strong sense of camaraderie so the folks in Pendleton decided to create an opportunity for the general public to taste a bit of our ranching lifestyle at the Cattle Barons Weekend starting this Friday. Here is Susan Allen with more on the event. Jeff, this is right up your alley, celebrating the American Rancher. The affair starts Friday night with the Saloon Crawl. Saturday morning main street will be full of cattle, horses and events like cow pie bingo for kids and kids at heart. What do you get for yelling Bingo?a cow pie? More likely a tasty bowl of chili. PGG is sponsoring it's first annual chili cook off . After lunch it's off to the Happy Canyon grounds where some of our regions top horse trainers will present ten to fifteen ranch broke performance geldings and Red Angus heifers from the O'Doherty ranch all slated to be auctioned at 6:00 at the convention center. Only twenty five dollars gets you into the live auction and dinner and I hear the band will get cranking right after the last horse is sold. Pendleton knows how to throw a good party and you are all invited to this one this weekend. For more on the Pendleton Cattle Baron's Weekend call the Pendleton Convention Center. I'm Jeff Keane.
