03/19/08 Transporting Wine

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. You know it used to be when we traveled we could carry wine on the plane with us but not anymore. That is a shame when I am really hoping to share Washington wines with my friends from out of the area. Today let's talk about the alternatives for getting the wine you want where you want it to be. Yes all of the rules and regulations regarding how much liquid we can carry on a plane has made it very inconvenient for people in the wine business who were used to carrying their samples with them when they flew. Needless to say folks like us who just want to take some nice wines when we are a guest in someone's home. Well here are a couple of ways I have dealt with the dilemma. First of all you can take the wine with you by packing it in a Styrofoam shipping container and box. I just pack one suitcase and check it along with my shipper of wine. It has always arrived safe and sound. Another alternative is to call the winery of your choice and pay to have a case or a few bottles shipped ahead of time to your destination. They are legal and happy to send it to any state allowing this process. So do not despair you can get your wine there it will simply take a little preplanning. Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at vine to wine dot net and thanks for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
