Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. This week is the beginning of March, not quite Spring, but we know winter is just about over. That means spring release wines will be coming out soon.
Each Spring the wineries usually release their white wines from the harvest of the vintage just past. This is because white wines are faster to make than red wines. Red wines may spend extra time aging in the barrel and in the bottle prior to being released for sale to the general public. However, the red wines which have been in production over the past few years may be ready for release and they are the reds you will be trying for the first time usually in the spring as well. Look for special advertising for Spring Barrel tasting events and get a sneak preview of a wine or two. But until then March or early April is a great time to go wine tasting. It is prior to the summer crowds and before the winery folks are spending most of their time out in the vineyards. It is a pleasant way to relax and have some fun trying new wines. Maybe even previewing the white wines you will be enjoying all summer long. Some wineries may even offer to let you buy futures of the wines you taste from the barrel. Most of all enjoy the new wines of the season. Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at vine to wine dot net and thanks for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
