Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and on today's program we are going to discuss recommendations for reasonably priced and excellent quality Washington wines.
Every so often I am asked, why is Washington wine so expensive? Well for one thing I do not agree that all Washington wines are expensive. However, keep in mind Washington is a state focusing on premium wine not bulk or bag in the box low end wines. So in some respects as the saying goes you are getting what you pay for. However, if what you want is a bottle of wine under eight dollars I am not the person to ask. I haven't had a really good bottle of wine under eight dollars in at least 10 years. But I happen to think there are some amazing bargains out there in high quality Washington wines that are in no way over priced more like a great value. Wines like Thurston Wolfe Dr. Wolfe's Family Red at fifteen dollars or Bernard Griffin Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot, either one only seventeen dollars. I also like the wines made by Balboa out of Walla Walla not heavily oaked and true varietal character at a small price. I know I mention them often but I can't help it Kiona wines are among the best values you could find anywhere not just in Washington. So give those reasonably priced wines a shot.
