03/11/08 Lawsuit Abuse

Have we become a nation of buck passers, always blaming someone else for our problems or mistakes? If the nation's courtrooms are any indication, the answer is yes. Apparently, if you're overweight, it's the fast food restaurants' fault where you buy lunch everyday. If you wreck while driving and talking on the cell phone it's the phone companies fault, smoke and it's the tobacco companies fault, and if you're a compulsive gambler it's the casinos fault. Our judicial system needs to wake up and stop the insanity that has our courtrooms clogged with frivolous lawsuits. Otherwise where will they draw the line? If left unchecked, the person with high blood pressure can sue the salt company, the alcoholic can sue the liquor store; the shopaholic can sue Niemen Marcus and so on and so on& As it stands now, legitimate claims by people who deserve retribution for their injuries are often lost in the chaotic court system. Personal responsibility, once a cornerstone of American greatness is being methodically replaced by irresponsible civil litigation.
