Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and as many of you know my new favorite wine is usually the wine that I am drinking at the time, after all who would waste time drinking wine they don't enjoy? Recently I brought Washington wine to a dinner party, it was a wine I had purchased awhile back on the recommendation of a friend. And, having not yet tried the wine I was excited. The wine was the 2004 Bunnell Family Cellar, Boushey McPerson Vineyards Syrah. The wine is named for, and certainly by this pays tribute to, those two prestigious Washington vineyards Boushey and McPherson. It is a wine that has so much finess, and it shows off what balance is all about. The tannins and acids are well structured and very nicely complimented to the toasty oak. It all sets the stage for pure enjoyment with enough acidity to make it a great food wine. Now I wasn't the only one who was impressed. Each person at the table was laughing and talking but I watched them pause for a minute after they tasted the wine and then go back for another smell and an attentive taste before they joined back in the party. Ron Bunnell is a winemaker of great reputation and over 25 years experience in California as well as Washington state and it shows. He and his family are building a tasting room which will certainly be a must stop when traveling in Washington wine country.
