Welcome to Vine to Wine I'm your host Linda Moran. You know sometimes I have to admit that Food and Wine pairing can be a bit stressful; and I don't really think it should be a search for some kind of Holy Grail. When I'm feeling like that, I'm usually looking for something easy and fun. On today's program we're going to focus on a few food and wine pairings that are just plain fun.
A few years ago I read a great book titled Bacchus and me, by Jay McInerny. It was a fun read! Jay has some rather irreverent food and wine pairings, and for me it was liberating! Because now I know, I'm not the only one who eats those foods and enjoys those wines with them. One of my favorite food and wine pairing was also on Jay's list - Sushi and Champagne, it's the best! Go ahead and buy the pre-made sushi in the grocery store. It's quick and they just taste so great together. Next is macaroni and cheese with Australian Chardonnay & I don't know & but it works. And there is nothing in the world like Gewurztraminer and Thai food, especially if you like the heat in a three or four star range then definitely go sweet on the Gewurz. And I don't care what anyone says Chocolate goes best with Port not Cabernet Sauvignon. I also like popcorn and a good dry Chenin Blanc. And I have to admit that Jay had one that I had never tried and that's Old Vines Zinfandel with Fried Chicken! So although these suggestions may sound a bit unconventional I will stand by them and now I know I'm not alone! Thanks Jay and thank you for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
