11/16/07 Spice Wine

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and along with the holidays you may have a few house guests and maybe even a party at your home on the schedule. Today let's talk about two recipe's for hot spiced wine that actually taste good. Hot Spiced wine - Yes I know - I was a skeptic as well. I always thought of holiday hot spiced wine as something I would never drink let alone ever serve in my home. But I began experimenting with some recipes from my summer wine cocktails and I managed to make a few adjustments and come up with a couple of recipes that are actually very good. The first one uses white wine and I used an inexpensive but very good quality Sauvignon Blanc. I think it would also be tasty made with dry Riesling. Basically you add honey, orange liqueur, and ginger along with lime and orange slices to the wine and heat it up. It is great with Asian food. The second is a variation on my Sangria recipe which is red wine with a dash of orange juice, sugar, slices of oranges and lemons with some cinnamon sticks thrown in while you heat it up. It is actually more than just drinkable it is good. I think the key to good holiday spiced wine is to stay away from those bags of mulled wine spices and use fresh ingredients. You can find both of these recipes on our website at vine to wine dot net and thank you for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
