Poco Bueno was bound to be a good little horse, I'm Jeff Keane and I'll be right back to explain the horse behind the name. Out of the famed King-P-234, Poco Bueno already had the odds in his favor, standing at only 14.3 hands this little horse was a hefty 1,150 pounds. Talk about making every ounce count. Here's Becky to tell you more about this tank of a horse.
Not taking full bloom until late 1946, well into his two-year-old year Poco Bueno was observed as a bit of an ugly duckling, but with a little age and maturity, he came into an impressive specimen of horseflesh. Starting his saddle career as a roping horse it was not long until his true gift emerged. As a four year old in 1948 Poco Bueno's natural ability and cow sense turned the former halter horse into a blur of lighting-fast speed in the cutting arena. When it came to cutting, he took to the sport like a duck takes to water. Much like his sire King, Poco Bueno was gentle, smart and extremely athletic, and possessed the great ability to pass on his dignified traits. In his 25 years, he sired 36 AQHA Champions, including the famed mare Poco Lena. In retirement Poco Bueno enjoyed the comforts of his personalized barn and his many visitors always striking a pose and perking up his ears for his camera packing spectators, he did everything but say "cheese".
It appears Poco Bueno "was" a real Ham of a horse. Could it be true that you can weigh success by the pound? I'm Jeff Keane
