08/29/07 Cougs Go Green

Last week I reported that the University of Washington's Football team football was opting for health by requiring players drink milk after each practice, well not to be out done by their rivals the whole campus of WSU is being introduced to organic and sustainable foods. WSU already renowned for its College of Agriculture can now promote the fact that the university was the first in the nation to offer an undergraduate major in organic ag. This Fall they might also be the first to ever have an authentic farmers market on campus. The farm stand will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 pm each Wednesday through November 14. Supported and "sustained" by both the WSU' Sustainalbity Club and Organic Farm, proceeds from the sale of over 60 varieties of fruits and veggies will go to help support both campus organizations. The Sustainability Club is also urging WSU's President through a circulating petition to establish an Office of Sustainability to oversee recycling and food preparation efforts within WSU dining services. The "Cougs" are going green!
