Rugged Handheld PC. I'm Greg Martin with today's Line On Agriculture. Yesterday we talk with Brain Stark, marketing manager for Farm Works Software, about a brand new pocket pc designed for the farmer called the Titan RH which stands for rugged handheld. According to Stark, there have been other "rugged" pc's on the market that simply weren't. STARK: Even though when you purchase a rugged unit, it might say it's rugged-ised, you really have got to take a look at the level of the ruggedness to see where it's going to fall. I mean, you can drop I think this you can drop from like from your head onto the ground and it won't damage it but other rugged units you can drop from your knees and it still might break. There's just different levels and we have a nice one here for the ruggedness. The Titan RH comes loaded with software from Farm Works and is perfect for running other types of computer applications in the field as well. STARK: It's Windows driven and all of our software is Windows driven so Windows CE does come with some other applications like there's an Excel viewer, a Word viewer so you can load spreadsheets and word documents. The new handheld unit was only introduced a few months ago but Stark says demand has been high. One other good thing is that the unit comes complete. STARK: It comes with all the mounts and accessories and we don't want to sell a product that you buy something and then you find out that you need a $100 cable or a $200 mount to go with it. What you spend for this device it includes everything. And he says it has been made to stand up to the rigors that a busy farmer needs. STARK: It is water-proof, weather resistant it's designed to take a beating in the field. Farm Works Software has been producing Ag related computer programs since 1992. STARK: We came out with the first program called Farm Track for field record keeping and then in 1993 we came out with Farm Funds, the accounting package and then later on we came out with farm site for the mapping features. 1999 arrived and we had the software for the handheld devices for the first time.
