Welcome to vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. As many of you have figured out I am nuts for Riesling. I studied in Germany and have grown to love Riesling from all over the world. So today I am going to make recommendations for some of those misunderstood wines and you might take a chance on a white wine that is perfect for the summer.
Although my passion is for Riesling from Germany or Alsace there are lots of very nice Domestic Rieslings being produced in Washington and California. For years I have enjoyed Trefethen, J. Lohr and Navarro Vineyards Rieslings from California. They are as consistent and delicious as ever, all in differing styles and worth searching out. I live in Washington so there is no shortage of Riesling just a shortage of emphasis on creating markedly different styles. Which to me is disappointing in light of all the Riesling planted in Washington. However, there is some stand out Riesling wines from Forgeron of Walla Walla, Columbia Winery of Woodinville and Apex Cellars in Sunnyside. Apex Cellars wines are produced by Jean Claude Beck a winemaker who comes from Alsace France and he is making some stunning wines in Washington. This is a Riesling worth the search. The wines are all different and very enticing with food. I can recommend you enjoy them with a shrimp salad at lunch or grilled fish for dinner.
