05/28/07 Weather Is Great!

Weather is great! I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. I hope you are enjoying your beginning of summer holiday? The weather in eastern Washington where I report from has been fantastic and watching the fruit trees in my area got me wondering about whether the weather would hold. Meteorologist Tim Creek says&it looks good. CREEK: I would anticipate for the most part that we are going to remain above average in temperatures with very infrequent threats of shower activity as we continue through at least the first half of June and I would say probably if not all of the month of June. It looks like high pressure is going to be the dominate feature in our weather pattern. It should deflect storms and keep them to our west, deflect them to the north as they move through the area. Now one thing we do have to watch when there's high pressure is a pattern which allows moisture to come up from the south and that can lead to potential thunder showers and stuff like that. I don't see that type of pattern so I do see a relatively dry type of situation with again temperatures above average. Above average. I like the sound of that..at least through June. Of course when July and August get here, well I'll leave that for another report. I did ask Tim about whether we might be expecting one of those strange El Nino weather systems. CREEK: I don't see any signs of it, I know there was a very minor El Nino for the early part of this last winter so there's really no situation off the South American coast that is going to influence our weather El Nino, La Nina whatever. Time to get outside and enjoy the rest of the holiday. That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
