02/02/07 Apex Syrah

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. As many of you know my new favorite wine is usually the wine in my glass at the time. I mean who would want to drink wine they aren't thoroughly enjoying. Recently I had a bottle of wine that I thoroughly enjoyed and I wasn't surprised. Very often we try a new wine because in the past we have had a wine from that producer which we enjoyed immensely. This was the case when I picked up a bottle from the Washington winery Apex Cellars. It was a 2002 Apex Syrah. The wines are reliable and very tasty and a bonus is the red wines are usually bottled aged at the winery for an extra two years before they are released. Much longer than most other wineries. And if that isn't enough these wines are truly a great value. They are comparable to wines in the price bracket of at least ten or fifteen dollars more. Well the Syrah was such a treat. The fruit was rich and opulent with just the right touch of oak to compliment the fruit and not take over. The acid is at that very sophisticated level making the wine easy to drink all by itself or to accompany a savory meal. I loved it and so did everyone else who was there to taste it! The good news, it is still available. Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at Vine to Wine dot net and thank you for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
