12/5/06 Wine Snobs

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. It seems as though no matter how much we in the wine industry try to encourage you to embrace wine as a lifestyle. To enjoy it without intimidation and to let us help you find your way in the wine world there is always someone who thinks it is his or her job to reverse that by intimidating you about wine. So today let's chat! Just between us, I am fed up with those who think that it is necessary to push their preferences or use tactics of intimidation to let others know when it comes to wine they are well versed. I was recently in a tasting room where the individual behind the bar seemed to think a great deal of themselves and their wine perceptive position. This person rolled their eyes and made audible sighs when they were subjected to what they obviously thought were inaccurate assessments of the wines being poured. This same person while answering questions in a condescending and impatient tone seemed shocked that folks left without making any purchases. In another situation, I witnessed a wine collector clicking off the list of very expensive wines in his cellar, I guess in an effort to impress the group. We are all at different places in our interests in wine. We all seem to have different tastes. That is part of what makes it fun. As a listener of Vine to Wine, I want you to rest assured that your mouth is the only mouth tasting your wine and if it tastes good to you then enjoy it and know that I am proud just of the fact that you are drinking wine. Moreover, thanks for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
