Cooperative Conservation & NAFB Convention. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report. Through cooperative conservation - USDA and the Department of Defense have announced the establishment of a partnership to improve environmental lands near U.S. military bases. Ag and Defense officials announced the partnership agreement Wednesday - calling it a win-win for military training and land and water conservation. According to the Defense Department - encroachment of urban development has become a bigger threat to military bases, training facilities and surrounding areas in recent years. But this new partnership with USDA - according to Defense Deputy Under Secretary Alex Beehler - will enhance the sustainability of military installations and the working landscapes surrounding those installations. Beehler says the Department will work with partners to promote so-called compatible use buffers - which will also provide wildlife habitat and conserve the land. The National Association of Farm Broadcasters Annual Convention gets underway next in Kansas City. Farm broadcasters from all across the U.S. will be gathering to hear the latest on what is happening in the Ag business. Ag Secretary Mike Johanns will be on hand and there will be numerous sessions on all aspects of agriculture. I will be attending this years meeting and will report on all the happening at this years Farm Broadcasters Convention. Now here's today's Washington Grange Report. (GRANGE) That's today's Northwest Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
