Jenn Mariscal's message
We recently aired a piece that focused on suicide in the agricultural community. Well, Jenn Mariscol wasn’t sure she could talk about the tragedy in her family, losing her husband to suicide, but after losing others in her community, she decided it was time. Please take a moment to listen to her message. So I want somebody who is in the same situation that my husband was to know a few things. First of all, put your family first. Everything else doesn't matter. It doesn't matter that my husband sold a horse for tens of thousands of dollars, or built this beautiful arena, or had the straightest fence in Franklin County. None of that matters when you're gone. What matters are your kids and your wife. When you're gone. Every minute of every day, we suffer. Everything reminds you of him for the rest of my life and my kids lives. When people say, oh, where's your husband? Oh, tell us your dad. You can say that he died. And then they want to know why. I consider myself a victim of suicide. I would just say that it is the wrong decision to make in that moment. Pick up the phone. Call anybody. Call your parents. Call a brother. Call your sister. Call your neighbor down the street. Call one of your kids because the moment will pass. Ask for help. Just talk to somebody. It's been three years. It's like it was yesterday. So please know that your decision does not make things better. Your decision doesn't just end things and the next day everything's great. There's so many options. Killing yourself is not the best choice.
