Farm Bill Progress
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. Progress on a new five-year farm bill took a positive step forward with the introduction of the Senate’s version. In this week’s commentary, American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall says there are many benefits, but some improvements are still needed …
DUVALL … “Congress took another meaningful step toward passing a new farm bill when Senate Agriculture Chairman John Boozman released the Senate farm bill discussion draft.”
Duvall says on the good side …
DUVALL … “Benefits of the Senate farm bill include improved access to credit, expanded investments in specialty crops, increased transparency in fertilizer markets, and enhanced research and conservation programs.”
But Duvall says there are some important things that are missing …
DUVALL … “While this is a positive step forward, Congress must still protect interstate commerce, approve the sale of year-round E15, and provide economic aid to farmers struggling with a depressed farm economy.”
Duvall says we need this, now …
DUVALL … “We urge the Senate to work with the House to get a bipartisan farm bill to the president’s desk. It’s time to deliver solutions to America’s farmers and ranchers.”
Again, that is Zippy Duvall, president of the American Farm Bureau Federation.
