China Renews U.S. Beef Registrations
Last week, the U.S. Meat Export Federation announced China reopened export eligibility for hundreds of U.S. beef facilities, a move that could help restart beef sales to one of the world’s largest markets.China’s General Administration of Customs granted five-year registration renewals to 425 overdue U.S. beef establishments and added 77 new facilities eligible to export beef to China beginning May 15. Another 38 establishments remain suspended, including 25 that received renewed registrations but are still ineligible to export.
According to USMEF, the development follows summit discussions between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, where U.S. beef access was reportedly prioritized.
USMEF President and CEO Dan Halstrom called the move “a critical step forward for U.S. beef exports to China.”
The organization says the renewed registrations also came just ahead of the major SIAL food show that opened over the weekend in Shanghai, where international food buyers and suppliers gather.
