Buyers, processors, exporters, and growers from around the world are gathering this week in Orlando for Pulses 26, one of the pulse industry’s premier global events.

Montana farmer and USA Pulses Chairman Paul Kanning says the conference is a major opportunity to strengthen relationships and showcase the quality of pulse crops grown in the United States.

“It’s going to be a great week here,” Kanning said. “We’re going to have buyers from every continent coming in and it’s a great opportunity for us to showcase the products that we grow.”

The event focuses on dry peas, lentils, chickpeas, and beans, while connecting U.S. producers directly with international buyers.

“We can tell them, here’s the care that we’ve put into growing these products,” Kanning said. “It’s always great when we get to bring the world buyers into the United States.”

Kanning says U.S. pulse growers continue earning a strong reputation for quality throughout the entire supply chain.

“Our standard for quality is fantastic all throughout the value chain,” he explained. “These buyers know it, and that’s why they demand it.”

In addition to promoting exports, USA Pulses continues expanding its international presence. Kanning noted the organization recently opened an office in Africa to help strengthen trade relationships and identify new opportunities.

“We have representatives all over the world,” Kanning said. “They develop those relationships all the time, including now even in Africa.”

The conference also includes networking sessions and discussions surrounding logistics, trade barriers, risk management, and global market trends.

“It’s all about building relationships,” Kanning said. “That networking is what’s going to happen here.”

More than 50 countries participated in last year’s event, with over 1,000 attendees expected again this year as the pulse industry works to expand global demand for U.S.-grown pulse crops.
