American farmers are feeling the pressure of high fertilizer costs, and the National Farmers Union is bringing that message to Capitol Hill. The organization has endorsed a newly introduced bill aimed at addressing the issue. Leila Soberanis is NFU senior government relations representative.

“There is a bill, the Fertilizer Transparency Act, that National Farmers Union has endorsed. It provides a way does not perhaps fix the immediate solution or create a solution immediately, but it does provide an avenue for farmers to look at fertilizer prices in the immediate, something we are working on, and hopefully that will lead to other other solutions.”

Soberanis has comments on the announcement by the Trump administration that they have plans to boost fertilizer production in the United States.

“We would really like to see more details on what that is and that rollout, and we know that Secretary Rollins did provide a framework for how that would be rolled out. So really just waiting and seeing how we can be helpful and what that really entails. And I think internationally as well, other countries are trying to find solutions for their farmers within their country. So the fact that they're also hearing it on these international meetings, and bringing that information back home, is something to look at.”
