A New Take on Burgers and Beer

A classic pairing is getting a fresh, local twist in San Diego County, where burgers and beer now share a deeper connection.

At Viewpoint Brewing Company, brewing begins with grain and ends with craft favorites like Del Martian Amber Ale and Hop-Cano Hazy IPA. But what remains after the brewing process is just as important. Those spent grains are now finding new life through a partnership with Flying F Ranch.

There, Alli and Bryce Fender raise Black Angus cattle and host ranch-to-table meals for locals. Once a week, Alli collects leftover grain to supplement the herd’s diet, creating a natural link between brewery and ranch. About 90% of what cattle eat can’t be digested by humans, making them uniquely suited to turn by-products into nourishment.

Highlighted by the California Beef Council, this collaboration reflects a thoughtful approach to sustainability and local food. The Council was established in 1954 to serve as the promotion, research, and education arm of the California beef industry.
