Storm Relief Window Widens in Georgia
A new reminder today that disaster recovery across the Southeast is far from over. As drought and wildfire concerns continue to impact multiple states, relief efforts tied to past storms are still underway. In Georgia, Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J Harper has extended the deadline for farmers affected by Hurricane Helene to apply for financial assistance. Producers now have until May 11 at midnight to submit applications for the Hurricane Helene Block Grant Program.
Harper says the decision ensures farmers are not forced to choose between crises. He stated, “We would never put Georgia farmers in a situation where they would be forced to choose between responding to this current natural disaster or submitting their application to get relief from the last.”
The program covers a wide range of losses, including timber, infrastructure, livestock, dairy production, and specialty crops like pecans, blueberries, and citrus.
Farmers across the Southeast facing overlapping challenges are encouraged to stay informed as recovery resources continue to evolve.
