Georgia Apple Growers Renew Commitment
Georgia’s apple industry is reaffirming its commitment to promotion and research efforts across the state. The Georgia Department of Agriculture announced that producers have voted to continue the Georgia Apple Commission Marketing Order for another three years, signaling strong support for the Commission’s work.Under the renewed order, the assessment rate can now range from two to four cents per marketed bushel, an adjustment from the previous fixed rate of two cents. Before the start of this year’s apple season, the five-member Georgia Apple Commission set the final rate at three cents per marketed bushel. The updated rate will take effect once producers are formally notified.
Established by the Georgia General Assembly in 1962, the Georgia Apple Commission is one of Georgia’s oldest agricultural commodity commissions. Funds collected through the assessment support education, promotion, and research initiatives designed to strengthen the state’s apple industry.
Marketing Orders are reviewed and voted on every three years to ensure producers continue to support the Commission’s mission and programs.
