Research That Multiplies Cotton’s Impact
Want to turn $1 into $3? While this is not a promise of direct profitability, it does speak to impact. Strategic investments in research and education can deliver meaningful returns for the U.S. cotton industry in a highly competitive global fiber market. The Cotton Foundation is now seeking research proposals for the 2027 growing season to advance the long term strength of U.S. cotton. Proposals may address any segment of the industry, from on farm production of raw fiber to processes leading to finished textiles. Research and education priorities include farm profitability, traceability, cotton classing, invasive pests, educational outreach, and other industry needs. As noted earlier, National Cotton Council staff estimates that when cash and in kind services are included, the Foundation’s general projects generate an estimated return of about three dollars for every dollar invested.
Proposals will be accepted through July 1, 2026, and reviewed by the Research and Education Screening Committee. Funding recommendations will be presented to the Cotton Foundation Board of Trustees at its annual fall meeting in early August, with awardees notified by mid August.
