Vertical farming has largely fallen out of favor, but there is another segment of indoor agriculture that continues to grow steadily year after year. Greenhouse agriculture is projected to grow by more than 18% annually in the coming years. That’s why agricultural technology companies like Netafim continue to invest in the space. Shay Haxter is the Head of Global Projects and Greenhouses at Netafim.
Haxter… “ The greenhouse farming is growing, mainly focusing on vegetables and what we call soft fruits, blueberries and strawberries. This is where the market is going and it's growing.”
Haxter said this is not generally from new entrants into the industry.
Haxter… “ Two vectors. One is that people are expanding their farms in order to produce more using their facility and their organization to produce more food. And the other thing is that people are now going for mix. Farmers are producing grains and they can produce also blueberry and they can produce corn, and then they will also have a farm to produce tomato and pepper.”
Haxter said this helps farmers be more resilient and diverse their markets.
