Last week we reported that FarmBlox, a farm data and automation company, was moving its headquarters from Boston to Santa Cruz, California. One of the big reasons for the cross-country move, according to CEO Nathan Rosenberg, is that they were selected to be a part of Reservoir Farms, the first on-farm startup incubator in California.

Rosenberg… “ We met Danny, who's the CEO of the Reservoir, and so he pitched an idea to us, which we just love from the beginning, which is basically have a farm that you're not interrupting a grower to test new technology. When we got started we had some very gracious farmers let us use their land and their operation to test our product. And so we're excited to, to use our own land and our own farm with a lot of other startups like us. We get a little space on site there. We can do some engineering work. We can bring growers back there to show them a demo of our system. Basically we can put our devices on pumps and we can put soil sensors on the field and do a lot of testing with many different crops that grow in the Salinas Valley.”

The move enables the company to test the next breakthrough ag automation solutions in real-world conditions.
