Marketing Potatoes for Gen-Z Pt 1
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. Despite what many sources may claim, potatoes are a very healthy vegetable to include in your diet.Maeve Webster, president at Menu Matters, says many people understand that, but our younger generations have probably tried a lot more food options than us older, Boomer types …
WEBSTER … “But with so many new sides coming up from a whole host of international cuisines, which Gen-Z has been far more exposed to at their age than we certainly, I think you and I are probably the same, anybody other than Gen-Z has been exposed to.”
Webster says potatoes are so much more than just French fries and mashed potatoes, but they get tagged as unhealthy …
WEBSTER … “Oh, absolutely, and Gen-Z, unfortunately, gets almost all of their news from social media, and not just news sites on social media but just anybody on social media. So, you can imagine the amount of misinformation, the confused information.”
And that, Webster says isn’t easy for Gen-Z to overcome …
WEBSTER … “One thing that’s really interesting about them is because they are so tied to social media, they are feeling guilt and pressure to eat certain ways, make certain decisions, be certain things, try to achieve certain things.”
Tune in tomorrow for more on getting Gen-Z to appreciate
potatoes.
