Step Up: California Cattle Producer Wanted for National Beef Board
There’s an open seat at the national table where decisions are made about how beef checkoff dollars are spent—and it could have a California rancher’s name on it.I came across this while scrolling through the latest California Cattlemen’s Association newsletter. The USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service is looking for nominees for the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board. Established under the Beef Promotion and Research Act of 1985, the Board directs how checkoff funds are invested in beef promotion and research. It’s made up of 101 members from 34 states, plus regional units and one importer unit.
Right now, they’re looking for someone to represent the Southwest Unit, which includes California and Nevada, for a three-year term starting in February. Any beef producer who owns cattle can be nominated by a USDA-certified producer organization—like the California Cattlemen’s Association—and USDA will choose from the nominees.
If you’ve ever wanted to represent California cattle producers on a national stage, now’s your chance. Contact Katie Roberti at katier@calcattlemen.org by August 22 to learn more and apply.
(Appointee does not need to have an affiliation with the California Cattlemen's Association. If you're interested in the seat and do not not have a relationship with CCA, contact the Cattlemen's Beef Board for more information: https://www.beefboard.org/)
