Farm Bill Politics
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. As you probably heard, momentum for a new farm bill recently stalled when the Senate Ag Committee wasn’t able to pass their version of the bill onto the full Senate.American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall says lawmakers must stop with the delays and deliver some certainty to rural America …
DUVALL … “The Senate Agriculture Committee had an opportunity to support America’s farmers and ranchers by sending a farm bill to the full Senate. Unfortunately, the bill failed to advance out of committee. Farmers and ranchers are facing years of losses. They need the certainty of a strong, bi-partisan farm bill.”
The value of a new farm bill for all Americans, Duvall says goes far beyond political games …
DUVALL … “An overwhelming majority of Americans recognize that food security is national security. And most of them say they would be more likely to support a member of Congress who votes to reauthorize the farm bill.”
There’s still time, Duvall says for a bipartisan agreement that will mean something …
DUVALL … “We appreciate the efforts of the Senators who supported the bill, and we urge lawmakers to return to the table, work together, and advance the farm bill. This is too important to allow more delays.”
Again, that’s Zippy Duvall, president of the American Farm Bureau Federation.
