Big Almond Bump: USDA Pegs 2025 California Crop at 3.0 Billion Pounds
California almond growers are gearing up for a big year. The 2025 California Almond Objective Measurement Report, recently relased by USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, estimates the state’s crop at 3.0 billion meat pounds. That’s a 7% increase over the Subjective Forecast released in May and 10% higher than last year’s final crop of 2.73 billion pounds.Clarice Turner, president and CEO of the Almond Board of California, says demand remains steady. “While this year's Objective Measurement estimate is higher than the industry expected, shipments remain strong,” she said. “We are focused on innovation—expanding almond applications, reaching consumers through new channels, and opening markets around the world.”
The 2025 crop faced variable bloom conditions. Bloom began in early February and peaked mid-month, when storms brought rain, wind, and hail that hindered bee hours and blossom development. Conditions improved in March, and mild spring temperatures paired with timely rains supported nut growth into early summer. Pest and disease pressure has been reported as lower than normal. Harvest is expected to begin on time.
