The Supplemental Disaster Relief Program provides disaster relief payments to producers who suffered losses due to qualifying disaster events in calendar years 2023 and 2024. Farm Service Agency Administrator Bill Beam discusses some examples of qualifying events.
Beam… “ These disasters include wildfires, hurricanes, floods, derechos, excessive heat, tornadoes, winter storms, freeze, including a polar vortex, smoke exposure, excessive moisture, qualifying drought, and related conditions.”
To expedite this SDRP process, Beam says the Farm Service Agency is delivering assistance in two stages.
Beam… “ The USDA Farm Service agency is delivering assistance in two stages. The first stage is open to producers with eligible crop losses that receive assistance under crop insurance or FSA'S NAP will be part of stage one. Stage two signups for eligible shallow or uncovered losses will begin in early fall with assistance for flood related losses beginning later this summer.”
Beam said these programs will compliment the forthcoming state block grants that USDA is working with 14 different states to help develop.
