Honoring Veterans in Agriculture – And Bringing One to Anaheim

If you’re a veteran or active-duty service member making a difference in California agriculture, there’s a national spotlight waiting for you — and it might just lead you to Anaheim.

The American Farm Bureau Federation, with support from Farm Credit, is now accepting applications for the Veteran Farmer Award of Excellence. It recognizes veterans involved in farming or ag-related businesses who are also helping their local communities thrive.

The winner receives a $10,000 cash prize — plus an all-expenses-paid trip for two to the Farm Bureau Convention right here in California, January 9–14, 2026.

Last year’s recipient? Retired Army Colonel Joe Ricker of Indiana, who created a nonprofit orchard that helps veterans and first responders find healing through agriculture.

Applicants don’t have to be Farm Bureau members to apply, but they do need to submit their materials by September 2 at 5 p.m. Eastern.

If you’re growing food and growing community, this award could be for you. Find all the details at fb.org.
