Florida Senator Rick Scott, along with a group of congressional colleagues, has sent a letter to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick expressing strong support for the Trump administration’s decision to terminate the 2019 Tomato Suspension Agreement. The letter, released by Senator Scott’s office, calls the move a “long-overdue victory for American agriculture” and urges the administration to follow through with the planned termination date of July 14, 2025.

According to the letter, the current suspension agreement has failed to protect U.S. tomato growers from unfairly priced imports, allowing market share to shift dramatically—from 80 percent domestic supply in 1994 to just 30 percent today.

The letter also references findings from the Department of Commerce and the U.S. International Trade Commission, which concluded that Mexican tomato imports were sold at unfair prices and caused material injury to U.S. producers.

While these statements come from the letter and are not independent reporting, they reflect a broader push for enforcement of trade laws under USMCA.
