Ranchers Rally Ahead of May 15 Coyote Hearing

California ranchers and landowners may soon face new restrictions on their ability to manage coyote populations. On May 15 at 10:00 a.m., the California Fish and Game Commission’s Wildlife Resources Committee will meet in Sacramento to consider a proposed rule change that would limit the current allowance to take any number of coyotes at any time.

Coyotes pose a persistent threat to livestock and property, especially in rural areas. The California Cattlemen’s Association (CCA) is actively pushing back against the proposal, citing the importance of flexible predator control tools for ranchers. CCA will submit formal, detailed comments to the Committee ahead of the hearing and will be present in person to advocate for the continued ability of landowners to protect their herds.

The May 15 meeting is open to the public and will also be accessible virtually via Zoom. If this is an issue you feel strongly about, you're encouraged to tune in, stay informed, and share your perspective. For more details on how to participate or support the effort, visit www.calcattlemen.org.
