National Cattlemen's Beef Association, Director of Government Affairs, Allison Rivera says that work is being done on truck weights in Washington, DC, with a recent house highway subcommittee hearing on this topic.

"Things that came up in this hearing was obviously truck weights and something that we have been working on for a long time. It may not be the issue that you constantly hear from our team here in DC, but it is certainly a very important issue, and one that continues to be top of mind in the transportation space, something that is very important to our cattle producers across the country, and one that we have continued to focus on. So we have been working with a larger coalition on this issue for a very long time, and we are looking down the road at a surface reauthorization, which we will work through the Senate and the House on that that new bill.

Rivera says this is a pilot program,

"And we do have an opportunity here, 91,000 on six axles, and we're excited about this pilot program."

"It would be a state opt-in, so there would be no mandates, but states that wanted to participate certainly could, and I think that would go a really long way to assist us as we move forward in this truck weight space."
