The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has released 19 new reports detailing wolf depredation investigations conducted between October 18, 2024, and March 5. According to The California Cattlemen’s Association, 14 of those investigations confirmed livestock losses due to wolves, with additional cases classified as "probable" or "possible" wolf attacks.

The Whaleback Pack in Siskiyou County was responsible for four confirmed incidents, while DNA testing linked multiple yearlings from the pack to at least five depredation events in Modoc County, resulting in the deaths of six livestock animals. In late January, the Lassen Pack killed a sick cow in Plumas County, and in February, an unknown wolf or wolves killed two heifers and injured another in Shasta County.

By CCA’s count, CDFW has confirmed 60 livestock depredations by wolves in 2024, though the association suggests the true number is likely much higher. The full investigation reports are now available through the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
