Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and today is Food and Wine pairing day. With the last of the summer fruits being harvested I am finding myself making a few fruit salsa's for my grilled meats and slicing and grilling fruits as side dishes and to top my salads. Today I want to share some of my favorites with you and of course the wines that go with them.
Fruit is not just for breakfast or a quick snack. Really good quality fruit is best when it is in season and right now I have been enjoying the bounty. One of my favorite uses for stone fruit such as peaches is to slice it into thick pieces, spray it with a little olive oil and grill it to the point that it is just tender. It is fabulous atop a mixed green salad or a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It is nice with a Gewurztraminer or an Asti Spumante. The apples are beginning to roll in and they are another fruit that lends themselves to grilling to top a spinach salad with toasted walnuts and blue cheese. This is a salad that goes well with California Central Coast Pinot Noir or a lean Sauvignon Blanc. If you like Chicken pan roasted or grilled look into your cook books for some chutney recipes that would take advantage of all of the great plums or any other fruits that are available right now. Curried Chutney is very nice with Riesling or Gewurztraminer and sometimes with a Rose'. Next thing we know we will be talking about pears so enjoy the fruits of the season and remember to send your wine questions to Linda at vine to wine dot net and thank you for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
