From the Ag Information Network, this is today’s Fruit Grower Report. It’s no secret that the ag industry is facing plenty of challenges these days with burdensome costs and unnecessary regulations piling up.

Courtney Briggs, Senior Director of Government Affairs at the American Farm Bureau Federation, says she hopes the Trump administration will be tackling some of them soon …

BRIGGS … “I do anticipate that they will take a close look at many of the regulatory actions that are impacting farmers and ranchers and work to make adjustments that will certainly help our producers.”

One in particular, Briggs says is the WOTUS rule …

BRIGGS … “I think a lot of farmers and ranchers believe that this problem was solved after the Sacket decision came out of the Supreme Court last year. And unfortunately, what we’re hearing in the countryside is that there’s more confusion than ever.”

And gotten worse over the past few years …

BRIGGS … “I think that’s because the Biden Administration really manipulated and exploited the gray areas that exist in order to expand their jurisdictional reach beyond the bounds of what is legal.”

So, Briggs says fingers crossed …

BRIGGS … “Our hope is that this administration will take a new look and create a rule making that provides clarity and certainty to our members but also respects Congressional intent under the Clean Water Act, respects the role of state governments in protecting our nation’s waters, and respects the decisions in Sacket.”

Tune in tomorrow for why farmers don’t get enough credit.
