From the Ag Information Network, this is today’s Fruit Grower Report. Over regulation is one of the major hurdles farmers and ranchers are dealing with these days.

American Farm Bureau Federations’ Senior Director of Government Relations, Courtney Briggs says they’re reaching out to lawmakers to remedy the situation …

BRIGGS … “We want to accomplish all of the goals of protecting our environment but also getting rid of that unnecessary regulatory red tape.”

And, Briggs says the good things that agriculture DOES DO gets little recognition …

BRIGGS … “So, I think that just in everyday discussions there are a lot of arrows that are pointed at the farming community and agriculture in general. And I don’t think there is enough focus on the areas where farmers are stepping up and really implementing best management practices to address water quality.”

Because, Briggs says they do it right …

BRIGGS … “They’re stepping up to be leaders and problem solvers within their communities and I don’t think that there is enough recognition that is given to our members about coming in and solving difficult problems.”

Most of the negative stuff, Briggs says don’t believe it …

BRIGGS … “I say this all the time; Our farmers cannot provide, they can’t grow or raise anything without clean water and healthy soil. So, the narrative that farmers are out here destroying the landscape and they, you know, only want to make a profit could not be further from the truth.”

Again, that’s the American Farm Bureau’s Government Relations Director Courtney Briggs.
