Biofuels and 45z tax credits are among the many hot button topics occurring on the Hill right now. National Sorghum Producers is among the Ag organizations pushing for year-round sales of E15. CEO, Tim lust,

"Well, first, I mean E15 is something that just is, is tremendous bipartisan support, tremendous industry support. It's been done and is there. Certainly, we continue to see more states move in that direction. But you know, we really just need to get that one done and checked off and taken care of because it is such an important underlying situation for our industries and for the US ethanol industry beyond that, you know, 455z certainly something that our industry spent a lot of time in. We worked very hard to make sure that sorghum was included as one of the eligible feedstocks in the 45z discussion. And so certainly up to a new administration on what that all looks like and how things go forward there, we'll have to wait, and it'll take some time to work through those processes."

Under the US  Department of Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service, section 45z provides a tax credit for the production of transportation fuels with life cycle greenhouse gas emissions below certain levels. Lust says, from a policy standpoint, Efforts are underway to ensure sorghum remains eligible for biofuel programs, given its role in biofuel production.
