Beef-On-Dairy Supply Chains

Breeding dairy cows with beef genetics has really grown in popularity in recent years. It’s more commonly known as beef-on-dairy and feedlot health expert Dr. Kee Jim says the efficiencies gained have positive impacts for the planet and for a producer’s bottom line. He was an early pioneer of beef-on-dairy and the concept has really caught on.
Jim… “I started to figure out, all right, you know, how are we going to, you know, organize a supply chain so that we own the animals from birth all the way through the calf ranch, the feedlot, and so on. Because that's the only way that you can, you can monetize the thing properly and select the bulls that are, you know, that are doing the best job throughout the entire system. So I got very, very interested in that early because I thought now, I've got a chance to materially create a supply that's significant in our, in our population, you know, with known genetics, right? And not only no one, but the ability to use best of or superior genetics in, you know, in those, in those cattle. So, you know, we got all over that in the beginning and the B& D cattle will, you know, today probably represent about 75 percent of our, of our entire fed population.”
Dr. Jim says they recently started a partnership with URUS to provide beef-on-dairy bulls on a proprietary basis.
