California-based Twisted Fields is a working farm owned by robotics entrepreneur Daniel Theobald. Through his firsthand farming experiences, Theobald has designed a low-cost precision farming rover ideal for the small to medium sized farmer.

Theobald… “Farmers want to be able to own their equipment, they wanna be able to repair their own equipment. They want to understand how their own equipment works. So the precision farming rover, which is what we're building, is a ultra low cost, but ultra high tech platform, where we have just focused on making it as simple as possible so the average farmer can use it, really importantly, repair it. We want to re-empower farmers to be creative, to solve their own problems, and to give them these tools to be able to do that with. Our vision is that every farmer can have not just one of these. Like I can only afford one John Deere tractor. And my problem is when my tractor breaks, I'm out of business. Well, the idea here is I can have five (or) ten of these low cost robots that are doing that work. They don't do it as fast as a big, heavy, powerful tractor can, but they can do it reliably.”

Theobald added that the platform is capable of doing a lot of light duty farm work including bed prep, seeding, cultivation, mowing, and harvest help.
