FFA National Convention This Week
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. Seventy-thousand students are in Indianapolis this week for the 97th National FFA Convention and Expo.National FFA communications manager, Kristy Meyer says the celebration reaches over a million student members, and the expo has over 300 exhibitors …
MEYER … “We have our expo where we can visit all of those businesses who are ag-related. We have those career pathways to explore. We have competitive events so our students are coming and competing and then getting recognized on stage. We have student-teacher workshops. Then we have our national days of service where we give back to over 20 different community areas.”
All of which, Meyer says, demonstrates the support FFA has from the farm community …
MEYER … “We have over 700 corporate and individual supporters just for this event alone. And I really want to talk about, it’s not just the monetary, it’s also the volunteer, right. We have a lot of alumni and supporters who come to convention to help the advisors with their chapters and just maybe mentor those students for their competitive events. And it’s just really heartwarming to see how much people want to give back because they know our members are those future leaders in agriculture.”
And we know, Meyer says that they’re going to take that knowledge and put it to work for them."
