From the Ag Information Network, this is today’s Fruit Grower Report. If you haven’t made plans yet, the Washington State Tree Fruit Association’s 120th Annual Meeting and Hort Show in Yakima is right around the corner.

This year’s meeting Chair, Jeff Baldwin, Grower Relations Rep for Monson Fruit, says with all of the current challenges, you will want to be there …

BALDWIN … “The title of the show this year is “Navigating Adversity” because each and everyone of us, from vendors to growers to packers to sales companies, are facing adversity at this time.”

And like they say, misery loves company …

BALDWIN … “I would agree. They say there’s comradery in misery and we’ve got some of that right now.”

I ask Baldwin why attending is so important …

BALDWIN … “First and foremost is getting up to date information from the leaders in this industry. Jon DeVaney is going to kick off Monday morning, after my introduction speech, giving a WSTFA update. We’re bringing in Chris Gerlach from USApple to talk numbers because I think it’s important that growers understand those things.”

And, Baldwin says we’ve had some recent leadership changes …

BALDWIN … “We’re also bringing in Michael Schadler and Carrieanne Arias. Carrieanne is now the new CEO of the Pear Bureau and Michael is the new president of the Washington Apple Commission. So, growers need to get to know those individuals because they are representing them.”

Tune in tomorrow for more on this year’s WSTFA Annual Meeting and Hort Show.
