As we cover ag news in the post-Helene climate, we’ll be doing all we can in the coming days to keep you in the loop of recovery efforts, official updates as far as impact, and a bit of hope sprinkled in.In today’s news, Wilton Simpson, Florida’s Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services, has announced post-Helene loans for Florida Farmers. “Through the state funded and administered Natural Disaster Recovery Loan Program, we’re providing an immediate and efficient gap financing until additional federal resources are available to impacted producers, and we’re ensuring that Florida’s agriculture community continues to thrive,” says Simpson. And, over the weekend, Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper sent a letter to members of Georgia’s Congressional Delegation requesting immediate action be taken to provide federal funding to help Georgia farmers and producers recover. In his letter Harper writes, “As you are well aware, agriculture is our state’s #1 industry – contributing over $83 billion to our economy every year, employing over 320,000 Georgians, and sustaining rural economies across the state.”
