Some agtech companies would like to help farmers to create a digital twin of every field, so that it exists in both the physical and digital world. The natural question that might come to mind about this is: “well, why?”. Source.Ag founder Rien Kamman says it gives farmers the chance to do simulations and take risks digitally to inform their real world decisions.

Kamman… “As a farmer, as a grower, you are constantly bombarded with changes in weather, changes in market, changes in how crop grew. And every day you have to make dozens of decisions that will impact your performance of your farm or your greenhouse. And so all the risk today is taken in the real world. But you know, when something unexpected happens, you have to adjust. And yeah, very often, only later you find out if it was right or wrong, and it can be very costly. And it's getting increasingly complex, with the world becoming more volatile and complex and interconnected. And so this is causing billions of dollars of economic losses, lots of food waste, lots of farmers that are struggling because, you know, they could have done better, but they weren't able to.”
