Originally founded in New Zealand, BioLumic has relocated to the US and is now an Illinois-based agri biotech company specializing in seed technology. They focus on improving yield, quality, and vigor. CEO Steve Sibulkin joins us today for part one of a two-part series on this groundbreaking technology.

“BioLumic is an agricultural biotech company, and our focus is on programming the genetic expression of plants with light, light signals, to be precise. And what we're doing is we're using these light signals photo morphogenically, which essentially means that we are using light to regulate genetic expression to induce changes without changing underlying genetics of plants, we're driving yield and quality and vigor by directing the plants with these signals. Most of our focus is on seeds.”

BioLumic started in 2013 with a vision to change the landscape of farming for the better, according to Sibulkin.

“Essential idea of BioLumic was born through that. Could we use light signals in a very specific way to improve without damaging the plant, to improve the outcomes of crops for farmers in better yield or protective capability, and so that was really the origin point for BioLumic.”

More on BioLumic coming up tomorrow.
