Today is part two of our series on BioLumic, a bio-agritech company that uses ultraviolet light therapy on seeds to enhance plant growth in yields. In 2022 they began large-scale trials on hybrid corn, achieving impressive double-digit yield gains by 2023 they shifted their focus to inbred corn and parent lines, which are challenging due to yield depression. However, this marked a turning point for BioLumic, CEO, Steve Sibulkin.

“In our very first year, a 7.3% average yield gain here, which in that particular type of production is great, and we saw, you know, sort of double digit gains in some which is where we're headed. And it was sufficiently compelling that we sort of shifted our focus a bit with grow Alliance and some seed companies to focusing on inbred corn. So we've now partnered with them, and we've announced a few other collaborations with BEX and Peterson corn genetics, Peterson farms, there's a few others as well.”

This year, Sibulkin says BioLumic, is exploring whether their light signal treatment can be passed through generations of crop seed. They're treating pure breed seeds, which turns them into hybrids, and testing whether or not those hybrids can retain the same vigor gains, and quality that they've already seen. He says they are excited about the potential results of this new technology.
